The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and many NTUC affiliated unions are members of the international trade union movement, as affiliates of various international trade union organisations. Over the years, the Singapore Labour Movement has participated actively in extending fraternal cooperation to our union counterparts in other countries, as well as to regional and international efforts towards achieving our shared vision of a better life for all workers and their families.
NTUC affiliated itself to International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU), as a member of the Asia and Pacific Regional Organisation (APRO), in 1967. NTUC is now affiliated to ITUC and ITUC-Asia Pacific (ITUC-AP)1. NTUC was a founding member of ATUC when it was formed in 1981. NTUC used to be a member of the Commonwealth Trade Union Council (CTUC) from 1981 until 2004, when it wound up. Many NTUC-affiliated unions are members of the different Global Union Federations (GUF) (see Annex A).
Singapore is a Member State of the International Labour Organisation, with government, employer and worker representation by Ministry of Manpower (MOM), Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF), and NTUC, respectively.
1ITUC-AP was established with the merger of the ICFTU-APRO and Brotherhood of Asian Trade Unions (BATU) during the Founding Congress in Bangalore/India from 5-6 Sep 2007.
